Petition to Expand the CPP/QPP Canadian Labour Congress Campaign
The Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) has initiated a petition campaign to expand the Canadian Pension Plan/Quebec Pension Plan (CPP/QPP). The campaign calls on the Canadian Government
to increase pension benefits under both plans and implement a fully funded plan to phase in such an increase without delay.
The petition reads as follows:
We, the undersigned residents of Canada, draw the attention of the House of Commons to the following:
. Retirement security is one of the most pressing economic challenges facing Canadian families today. Less than 40% of all employees are covered by a workplace pension plan. Millions of
Canadians simply can’t save enough on their own to retire.
. Canada is facing a pension crisis. Expanding the Canada Pension Plan/Quebec Pension Plan everyone’s pension plan will make sure that all workers in Canada can count on a decent pension in retirement.
. Every worker in Canada belongs to the CPP/QPP. The Canada and Quebec Pension Plans are safe, fully-portable, and provide predictable, secure, inflation-protected benefits for life, at very
. Pension experts, provincial governments and seniors organizations all support increasing the CPP/QPP.
THEREFORE we call on the Federal government to work with provincial and territorial governments to increase pension benefits under the Canada and Quebec Pension Plans, and implement a fully funded plan to phase in such an increase without delay.
