At AMPA 2014, delegates overwhelmingly supported a motion to "approve the creation of (a) new provincial ESC workshop(s) that would provide members with information, understanding, and awareness about the mental health issues of our students, our colleagues, and ourselves." Canadians are realizing the importance of mental health and well-being. Your union recognizes that there are still a large number of people in Ontario who are not appropriately supported when mental illness impacts their lives and their families. OSSTF/FEESO members deal with serious mental health issues on a daily basis, primarily through their contact with students. It is also important to recognize our interaction with our colleagues is also sometimes impacted by these concerns. The Educational Services Department is inviting applications from OSSTF/FEESO members with training and experience in addressing mental health issues. Active members in good standing who are directly involved in providing mental health support or education are invited to put their names forward to be part of the writing team that will develop this new resource. The intent is that the workshop will be developed and piloted simultaneously in English and French.
A letter of interest should be sent along with two letters of reference – one of which must be from an OSSTF/FEESO member. Endorsement by the local president will also be required for an application to be considered. Applicants should verify with their local president that there are no restrictions for time release within the bargaining unit. The deadline date for submissions is Friday, May 30, 2014.
Successful applicants should be able to participate in meetings of one-to-two day’s duration over the next six months. The locations of the meetings are still to be determined. Following the completion of the workshop material, members of the writing team may be selected to take part in the delivery of the new workshop(s) as they are piloted across the province.
Time release and allowable expenses related to participating in the creation of these resources will be covered by provincial office. Interested members should contact Suzette Clark at firstname.lastname@example.org for additional information.
