Ministers Advisory Council on Special Education (MACSE) - Vacancies
Each year the Ministry of Education invites individuals with an interest in special education, to apply for the Minister’s Advisory Council on Special Education (MACSE). The Council consists of members appointed by the Minister.
According to the Ministry of Education website, vacancies remain unfilled. OSSTF/FEESO is encouraging members who would be willing to represent a specific community of interest on the Council to apply. There are currently four vacancies which OSSTF/FEESO members would be eligible for:
• Learning Disabilities
• Teachers/French Language Community
• Speech and Language Pathologists
• Aboriginal Community
Terms of appointment are for three years. The role of the Advisory Council is to "respond to proposals or positions of the Ministry of Education or other ministries as submitted to the Council from time to time; identify concerns in the delivery of special education programs and services for exceptional pupils and provide information, advice and recommendations for consideration; submit an annual report that includes the Council’s priorities and a plan for achieving them, an analysis of the achievement of the previous year’s priorities, and recommendations to the Minister".
The Council meets three times a year (June, October and February) with meetings lasting 1½ days. All applications must go through the Public Appointments Secretariat. Information to apply online or to download an application form is found at http://www.pas.gov.on.ca/scripts/en/appl_how.asp.
